Tasmanian Pistol & Rifle Club (TP&RC) shoots ISSF pistol, 10m Air Pistol, 50m Free Pistol, Service Pistol, WA1500, Steel and Action, and rimfire rifle at its ranges at 30 Shene Road, Pontville.

The club was founded in 1931 as the Hobart Revolver Club. It went into recess during the Second World War, re-formed in 1945, became the Tasmanian Pistol and Revolver Club in 1949 and took its current name in 1996. After sharing the Hobart Gun Club's facilities at Brighton from 1958, it moved to Shene Road in 1966. TP&RC hosted National Championships in 1971, 1975, 1984, 1990, 1993 and 2002, and the first Australian Masters Games pistol competition in 1991.

Shoot days

Air Pistol matches run every Tuesday evening from 5:45pm and 50m Free Pistol every Wednesday at 10am. ISSF matches are at 10am on a Saturday or Sunday roughly once a month, followed by rimfire rifle at 1pm. Service and WA1500 matches are at 10am on Sundays roughly fortnightly, and Steel and Action about monthly.

Visiting and joining

The best time to visit is Tuesday night from 6pm, when you can try Air Pistol. Wear enclosed shoes; children over 12 can take part with a guardian. The club also runs Come & Try days, advertised on its Facebook page. A range officer or committee member attends ISSF matches to meet potential members and sign participation cards and PTA forms.
